Leadership Team News The leadership team would like to extend our gratitude to the entire staff for stepping up and providing evidence for WASC. Every group has achieved success and word around campus is that the staff feels the “push” toward meeting our common goals of improving instruction and utilizing data. We look forward to continuing these focus groups in order to make improvements at Morse. Updates: Leadership team members took a release day on Thursday, January 14 th to organize WASC evidence and begin writing the WASC report. Key team members will create evidence binders for each WASC Focus group. Kathy Banuelos and Jim Giardina will synthesize the information to create the final report to be submitted on February 19 th. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact either teacher via email at kbanuelos@sandi.net or jgiardina@sandi.net. CST quizzes on Modified Wednesdays have been a success for core departments. Several department chairs have expressed that CST quizzes have promoted specific discussions around data within departments, and as a result students seem more vested in improving and scoring well on upcoming CSTs. We would like to refine this process and continue to help staff become comfortable with using Data Director to help them make instructional decisions. We hope to spread this work to all departments. Principal's Message I would like to thank the entire staff for working together to gather evidence demonstrating our growth for WASC. We will have the opportunity to showcase our work during our mock WASC visit on February 11 th. In addition, the official WASC visit will take place on March 9 th. We will use our next staff meeting to go over our plan for the visit and will break out into WASC focus groups to go over details and answer any questions about the visit. As part of Prop S., there is a plan to have a groundbreaking ceremony tentatively set for Thursday, February 18 th from 9am- noon. VPs Send a Strong Message about School Policies Vice Principals Rich Delapeña and Jill Dower gave presentations in 9 th and 10th grade English classes, while Ann Menna visited 11 th and 12 th grade English classes to reinforce school policies. Please discuss policies with students so they understand we are a united front. A committee of teachers has formed and is in progress of revising a form that can be used to help teachers determine the proper consequences for student behavior. These revised policies will be reviewed with students at upcoming policy assemblies on February 12-15 th. All students should be wearing their ID’s on a daily basis in every class. Please help out by conducting random ID checks in class so students are accountable for the policy. Points Covered During Presentations: - Tardy students will make up time after school in Room 802.
- Students should attend school daily.
- Truancies need to be made up in Saturday School.
- No fighting will be tolerated at Morse High.
- Students who fight will be arrested, suspended or sent to another school.
- Students should seek alternative ways to resolve issues.
- Upperclassmen should model good behavior for underclassmen.
- Students should follow the Academic Honesty Policy
- Tutoring is available Monday-Thursday so there is no reason for students to be in academic jeopardy.
